Social Worker – Counselling

Full time, 35 hours per week; potential evenings

Salary: $71,000 to $94,000 based on experience

We are seeking a Social Worker – Counselling, to provide direct counseling and other services and supports to clients, specializing in woman abuse and poverty reduction. May carry out assignments other than direct services and will carry out related activities and administrative tasks as necessary. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide trauma-informed individual, family, or group counseling to clients using a range of appropriate methodologies and techniques to best meet client needs

  • Formulate and develop client-centred service plans including crisis interventions, internal agency responses and referrals, etc. 

  • Provide community- based advocacy for access to services such as medical, legal/Legal-Aid, police departments, housing, support services, therapy, and other related assistance. 

  • Work within the poverty reduction program to support vulnerable clients by completing assessments and setting goals for client’s financial abilities to help them understand financial management. 

  • Provide crisis intervention services, and support other staff in protocols regarding women’s issues with a focus on domestic violence.

  • Facilitate coordination of services which includes the provision of information, advocacy, and referral to both internal and external resources.

  • Maintain an understanding of legislation and government prescribed procedures, regulations and standards for JF&CS programs.

  • Adheres to Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) to protect service recipients’ privacy and establish rules for the collection, use and disclosure of personal information of individuals while facilitating the effective provision of service.

  • Participates as an agency intake clinical assessor.  Understands clients’ needs, answers questions about services offered, completes assessments, conducts crisis intervention and makes referrals for treatment. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master of Social Work or equivalent related degree

  • Registered member of OCSWSSW in good standing

  • Minimum 3 years clinical or related experience required

  • Experience in assessment and client service delivery

  • Knowledge and/or expertise in specific clinical therapeutic interventions such as brief therapy, CBT, and/or group psychotherapy

  • Strong clinical and assessment skills

  • The ability to establish rapport, credibility and build strong relationships with clients and colleagues

  • Fluency in Russian and/or Hebrew will be considered an asset
