chaplaincy services
Based on the principle of kol Yisrael arevim zeh b’zeh (all Jews are responsible, one for the other), Chaplaincy Services responds to the needs of those who are sick and/or isolated.
This vital arm of JF&CS works closely with staff in institutions in the GTA and beyond, to provide direction and guidance to increase their awareness of the unique needs of Jewish patients, long-term care facility residents, and inmates.
Chaplaincy has both an advocacy and communication role in the rehabilitation of those it serves, facilitating participants’ re-entry into the community, wherever possible.
Under the guidance of Director of Chaplaincy Services, Rabbi Ronald Weiss, JF&CS serves as the official point of contact for police and government matters pertaining to Judaism in the GTA. Rabbi Weiss is the only Jewish community chaplain in Toronto.
Chaplaincy Services strives to meet the needs of Jews residing in Ontario health care facilities and correctional institutions, by providing professional and volunteer resources for:
-
Rabbinic consultation and counselling
-
Jewish programming and holiday observances
-
Educational presentations
-
Religious services and regular visits
