Who We Are
As a multi-service agency, Jewish Family and Child Service provides support to vulnerable members of the Jewish and broader communities experiencing a spectrum of life challenges. Founded in 1868, JF&CS is built around the pillars of enhancing safety and security, reducing the effects of poverty, and improving mental health and wellness. We are the mandated Children’s Aid Society for Jewish families in the GTA, and support vulnerable populations, including those living in poverty, experiencing domestic violence, facing mental health struggles and other difficult obstacles.
Jewish Family and Child Service is seeking candidates to serve on the Board of Directors.
Role of the Board of Directors
In addition to legislative requirements, the board takes on the following activities to meet the expectations or needs of government ministries, other funders, the community and clients:
• to set overall direction
• to develop policy
• to monitor programs, management and operations
• to manage resources
• to maintain effective internal and external communications
• to engage in advocacy for the Agency, its staff and clients
• to support fundraising activities and initiatives
• to engage in self evaluation
Your Experience and Skills
One or more of the following experiences and skills are highly valued: lived experience, finance, policy, governance, non-profit law, advocacy, fundraising, human resources, public relations, operations/administration, child protection, health or social services, EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion), and infrastructure management.
Although identifying as Jewish is an asset, JF&CS welcomes candidates of all faiths and ethnicities, thus reflecting the community JF&CS serves.
Applying for the Board
Board positions are on a volunteer basis. Suitable candidates usually complete a year as a member of a Board Committee before participating in the election process for the Board. Committees include:
• Programs, Services and Outcomes Committee
• Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee
• Finance Committee
• Resource Development Committee
Applicants must live or work in the GTA and be able to commit for a minimum of 3 years. Interested individuals are invited to submit their CV and cover letter to the Nominating Committee at info@jfandcs.com.
