A New Chapter

JF&CS connected Mom with a social worker. She called for support coping with losing Bubbie, but she found so much more. She soon began meeting with a counsellor and joined a grief support group.
Sam and I were connected with a grief group designed for people our age. They understood what we were going through and that made a big difference. It gave us a safe place to talk about how sad and confused we felt and we realized that we weren’t alone.
But the help didn’t stop there.
Where the Story Changes
When money became more stressful, JF&CS helped Mom talk with our landlord and work out a plan so we wouldn’t lose our home. She met with a financial coach who helped organize bills, file taxes, and sort everything out so it didn’t feel so overwhelming.
Groceries had become a real concern. Food is so expensive, and Mom was struggling to keep up. Through JF&CS, we started receiving bi-weekly produce boxes, grocery gift cards, and pantry items, which really helped. They also helped bring joy back to our holidays with kosher food for Rosh Hashanah and Passover.
Now, for the first time in a long time, Mom doesn’t feel like she has to figure everything out alone. Things are starting to feel lighter. The late-night phone calls happen less, and she’s starting to smile again.
