Tax Clinic Worker 

Salary: $57,500 – $76,000 based on experience; 35 hours per week

6 month contract

*This position will be a hybrid position that works remotely and from the office.

We are looking for a Tax Clinic Operator who will be responsible for preparing and filing basic income tax returns for eligible clients in accordance with CRA guidelines.  

 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and file basic income tax returns for approximately 200 eligible clients in accordance with CRA guidelines, using the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program tax software

  • Engage in additional tax related services as necessary

  • Provide Tax and CRA related information to the Agency staff and clients

  • Ensure the smooth operation of the Agency Tax clinic

  • Participate in Tax Clinic meetings, abide by the program reporting and documentation requirements and work in conjunction with other Tax Clinic workers.

  • Maintain an understanding of legislation and government prescribed procedures, regulation and standards of JF&CS programs

  • Ensure accurate and detailed notes related to objectives and clearly documents and logs in the case management system.

  • Liaise, communicate and coordinate a collaborative working relationship with internal and external professionals

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary degree and/or equivalent experience in relevant area 

  • Experience with Tax preparation and filing

  • Knowledge and/or expertise in all aspects of tax related issues such as relevant legislation, income benefit programs, other government programs and policies related to people's finances and specifically low-income populations

  • Experience with U-file and CRA tax filing programs and documentation

  • Experience working with people from marginalized and diverse communities, including individuals with mental health and other related issues

  • Strong coordination, time management and planning skills

  • Comprehension of French or another language will be considered an asset
