Children in Care Worker

Full-time; Permanent; 35 hours per week, potential evenings

Salary:  BSW - $66,000 to $86,000  MSW - $74,000 to $99,000 based on experience

About The Role

The Children in Care Worker will be responsible for direct counseling and other practical and concrete services to clients using appropriate techniques and methods of social work practice.  Specializing in Children in Care, Continue Care & Support for Youth, Voluntary Youth Services Agreement, Kinship, and transitional age youth, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the children and youth in care and resource clients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide counselling and/or direct service to a selected caseload, with a focus on the Agency's Children in Care, VYSA, Kinship, CCSY and transitional age youth, using an appropriate range of techniques.

  • Support and advocate on behalf of clients to ensure they have access to services within the Agency and in the community.

  • Transport children and care to appointments as required.

  • Extensive involvement in child welfare duties, liaise with outside paid institutions, foster parents and other residential care providers.

  • Liaise with professional and community staff to provide support services in line with the case management plan.

  • Complete and maintain case notes and recordings while complying with Ministry standards.

  • Maintain an understanding of legislation and government prescribed procedures, regulation and standards of JF&CS/Child Welfare programs.

  • Adhere to Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and Part X of the CYFSA to protect service recipients’ privacy and establish rules for the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information of individuals while facilitating the effective provision of service.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Masters of Social Work, Bachelor of Social Work 

  • Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a vehicle is required

  • Clinical and assessment experience is required

  • Understanding of and commitment to the Agency's client centric approach

  • Working knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act in Ontario

  • Interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy and the ability to work with a variety of styles and to appreciate diversity

  • Flexibility and ability to respond to changing circumstances and organizational needs

  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
