Financial Empowerment and Problem Solving (FEPS) Worker

Full time, 12 month contract | 35 hour work week, potential evenings 

Salary Range: $56,000 - $75,000 based on experience


Jewish Family and Child Service is a multi-service, client-centered agency, and a Children’s Aid Society supporting the healthy development of individuals, children, and families. Due to the current pandemic environment, this position is currently working remotely.

We are seeking a Financial Empowerment and Problem Solving (FEPS) Worker as part of the Resiliency program in collaboration with UJA, JVS Toronto, JIAS Toronto and Jewish Addictions & Counselling Services (JACS).  This position will be responsible for providing direct financial advocacy, empowerment and problem-solving supports to clients experiencing financial hardship and poverty related challenges focusing on newly vulnerable members of the community as a result of Covid-19.



  • Provide budgeting and money management supports to clients dealing with financial hardship and poverty related challenges.

  • Utilize a range of financial problem solving knowledge and skills to assist clients in maximizing their government supports.

  • Conduct financial assessments of individuals and families experiencing financial and poverty related challenges.

  • Formulate and develop client-centered service plans with clients; including financial crisis interventions, internal agency response and referrals, linkages and referrals to external resources and follow ups.

  • Support clients in accessing appropriate financial interventions such as tax filing, income benefits and supports, opening bank accounts, debt repayment programs, RESPs, and RDSPs

  • Develop and provides financial literacy individual and group training for clients, staff, community members and other stakeholders

  • Operate an in-house tax clinic and file taxes for clients

  • Perform other duties as assigned.



  • University degree and/or equivalent experience in a relevant area

  • Accredited Financial Counsellor Canada (AFCC) considered an asset

  • Adult education, coaching, and group facilitation experience

  • Extensive knowledge and/or expertise in all aspects of personal finance and the financial system, including relevant legislation, income benefit programs, other government programs and policies related to people’s finances and specifically

  • Experience with U-file and CRA tax filing programs and documentation

  • Strength-based, client-centered poverty reduction service delivery knowledge and experience

  • Fluency in Russian, Yiddish and/or Hebrew an asset
