Jewish Family and Child Service (JF&CS) is closely watching the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. In our response, we are following the advice of Public Health authorities. Currently, the health risk associated with COVID-19 is high for the general population of Canada. Public health risk is continually reassessed as new information becomes available, and JF&CS will provide updates if the risk for COVID-19 changes.

Update as of March 16, 2021.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Children’s Aid Societies and Indigenous Child and Family Well-Being Agencies in Ontario ARE continuing their child protection services. We are NOT closed. Although agencies across the province have modified their business practices to respond to health and safety concerns, their core protection services continue. If any member of the public or professional have a concern about the safety and/or well-being of a child or youth under 18, they should immediately contact their local Children’s Aid Societies or Indigenous Child and Family Well-Being Agency. A list of local contact information for these agencies are available here: http://www.oacas.org/childrens-aid-child-protection/locate-a-childrens-aid-society/

On Monday December 21st, the Premier of Ontario announced a “Provincewide Shutdown” beginning on Boxing Day.  Here is part of Premier’s announcement: “As COVID-19 cases continue to rise at an alarming rate, the Ontario government, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health and other health experts, is imposing a Provincewide Shutdown. Additional restrictions will be put into place and reinforce that Ontarians should stay at home as much as possible to minimize transmission of the virus and prevent hospitals from becoming overwhelmed. The Provincewide Shutdown will go into effect as of Saturday, December 26, 2020, at 12:01 a.m.”

Please be advised that Jewish Family and Child Service will remain open during the entirety of the shutdown. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the majority of our 30+ programs and services have been offered virtually and/or remotely and this won’t change. Our mandated child welfare services will continue to operate and will include in-person contact when required. Following the holiday break, the Jerome D. Diamond Adolescent Centre will provide remote learning for all students until the government and Toronto District School Board allow for the resumption of classroom learning.

If you have any questions or require service, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 416-638-7800.

What we are doing

  • We are consistently monitoring Public Health updates on COVID-19

  • We are ensuring that all service areas have hand sanitizer and are cleaned regularly

  • We are still running programs and other service-related activities

What you can do

Similar to the flu, the best way to protect yourself is through prevention:

  • Clean your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a sleeve/tissue when you sneeze or cough

  • Avoid touching your face (eyes, nose or mouth) with unwashed hands

  • Avoid contact with people who are sick

  • Stay home if you are sick and limit contact with others

If you notice symptoms of the virus (such as fever, cough, or difficulty breathing), it is advised that you contact TeleHealth Ontario (1-866-797-0000), your healthcare provider, and/or your local health authority.

We are monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis to ensure the safety of our community members, staff and families.
