The Student Placement Program
What is it?
The program provides placements to students currently enrolled in social work, social service work and other counselling programs at various educational institutions in Toronto such as the University of Toronto, York University and Ryerson University. Students have also been accepted from Wurzweiler School of Social Work in New York.
Students from distance education programs such as Athabasca University, and Yorkville University have also been accepted into the program.
The Coordinator of the Student Placement Program liaises with the universities and colleges in order to recruit students for placements. Students are directly referred by most schools. Some students may be self-referred and can contact the agency to arrange their own placements.
Students are placed with student supervisors who work in Counselling, Financial Assistance, Child Welfare, Woman Abuse, School Social Work, Jewish Hospice, etc. The Coordinator of the Student Placement Program matches students learning needs and interests with potential supervisor’s areas of expertise.
Students will carry a caseload and meet three times a month with other placement students. As well, the students have the opportunity to attend a monthly professional development seminar with a clinical psychiatrist. They can also participate in a number of other training opportunities that are held at the Agency.
All students provide feedback about their experience in the placement. Their comments are used to make changes and improve in the program.
