the bagel club

The Bagel Club is a weekly socialization and support group for adults with mental health issues. The Club provides a place for social work and peer support and is a venue for isolated individuals to learn social skills and to feel a part of the community in a respectful and safe environment. Bagel Club members have struggled with many life challenges. Nonetheless, an intrepid group comes to this program weekly as it represents a crucial connection. Each week the group reads the newspaper together and discusses current events, engaging in Toronto’s political and social life. Occasionally we invite guests to speak to the group about a specific topic, including a top news story, wellness and nutrition, and mental health. On various holidays, the group has a small celebration together, so that they do not feel alone.

The Bagel Club occurs once a week at two of JF&CS's branches:

  • 4600 Bathurst Street

  • 365 Bloor St E, Suite 1904
