Direct Service Volunteers

One vital way we provide Community Services is through our Direct Service Volunteers -- the special people who devote their energy and enthusiasm to helping Jews in need in our community, lending a hand wherever it is needed in Jewish Toronto.
Some of our Direct Service volunteers work with our clients to help them access the services they need. Jobs performed include: tutoring students at one of our Homework Clubs, one-to-one in their homes or at the Jerome D. Diamond Adolescent Centre to help them improve their schoolwork; and driving children in Foster Care to appointments with doctors, social workers or to meetings with their parents.
Direct Service volunteers also bring smiles to the faces of our clients young and old. JF&CS Big Brothers and Big Sisters (Bigs and Littles) serve as role models for Jewish children and develop special friendships with their Little buddies. Friendly Visitors spend quality time with socially isolated persons in long-term care facilities and correctional institutions.
Café Europa volunteers host Holocaust survivors each month for social and cultural programming, over lunch at the Bernard Betel Centre for Creative Living. This unique celebration of life and survival is a partnership between JF&CS and the Betel Centre.
