JF&CS - The Only Children’s Aid Society for the Jewish Community
Jewish Family & Child was designated as a Children's Aid Society by the Government of Ontario in 1980. As such, we have a mandated responsibility for all Jewish children in the Greater Toronto Area, under the age of 16, who are in need of care, protection, and a permanent home.
Child Protection Services
As a Children's Aid Society, we investigate all allegations or reports of child abuse, including neglect. Our child welfare social workers are highly trained in recognizing evidence of abuse and in making the difficult decision to apprehend a child. When a child's safety and well-being are at stake, we may make the decision to take that child into our care. Children in our care may be placed in private foster homes, group homes or other institutional settings, depending on the child's unique situation.
Whenever possible, we work to keep families together. We offer preventive programs and services that may ward off family problems before they escalate to crisis proportions. When we do remove a child from his or her home, we work with the family by teaching them the skills they need to provide a safe and nurturing home. Our goal is to return the child home if and when it is safe and appropriate to do so.
Remember, it's your legal obligation to report any suspicion or knowledge of child abuse by calling a Children's Aid Society. For more information on abuse, click here.
