Foster Care

It is said that it takes a whole village to raise a child.

We believe that children are our greatest gift and safeguarding their physical, mental and emotional health and development is our shared responsibility.

Our Foster Care program provides a supportive atmosphere for Jewish children who are separated from their families. These children and youth, ranging in age from newborn to 16, may come into our care on a planned or emergency basis and may require short- or long-term care. Typically, our "kids in care" are:
  • victims of abuse, neglect or family breakdown
  • children with physical or developmental challenges
  • children whose parents are not able to care for them
  • troubled teens in need of alternative living arrangements when they cannot live at home

Group Placement

Some children in our care are not able to live in private foster home settings for a variety of reasons, including fragile medical conditions, severe behavioural issues or mental illness. In these cases, children are placed in specialized treatment facilities where their needs are met by professionals. JF&CS social workers work closely with these group homes to ensure that the children continue to receive excellent care.
